The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD – the apex of any Mustang ever engineered by Ford – sets a new performance bar with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque and a top speed of 202 miles per hour, the most of any street-legal Mustang ever.

The certified horsepower and torque, along with the Mustang GTD’s cutting-edge active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers are key elements as Mustang GTD prepares to deliver on the promise of an official sub-seven-minute lap of the Nürburgring.

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 17, 2023 – Deep inside a metal storage garage hidden behind a wind tunnel building in Allen Park, Mich., a handful of team members gathered in 2021 for a new, after-hours mission that on paper felt like an impossible dream: design a Mustang to take on the best of European sports cars.

The result is a limited-edition, ultra high-performance street legal performance car with the soul of a Mustang.

Debuting today is the all-new 2025 Ford Mustang® GTD, a technological tour de force inspired by the Mustang GT3 slated to race in Le Mans next year. Unapologetic in its heritage, unbelievable in its performance, its sculpted mostly carbon fiber wide body and looming rear wing says everything in just a glance. This is like no Mustang ever.

“Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “This is a new approach for us. We didn’t engineer a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road. Wind tunnels have long been used to design and test aerodynamic and energy efficient vehicles. Now, Ford has combined the latest wind tunnel technology with the equivalent of a vehicle-sized treadmill to help create its next-generation of production vehicles, including the all-new Mustang Dark Horse.

Capable of simulating wind and road surface speeds of 200 mph, the Rolling Road Wind Tunnel (RRWT) supports testing for efficient and performance-driven vehicles across the Ford lineup – including the next generation of Ford electric, hybrid and gas vehicles.

The Best Stang Decade: Fans Compete in September 14 Costume Contest at The Stampede

Mustang fans will get their first glimpse of the next-generation model on Sept. 14. And to celebrate the first six generations of Mustang, Ford is hosting the Best Stang Decade contest as part of the reveal to celebrate every decade of the car’s existence.

Those attending The Stampede – the reveal of the all-new seventh-generation Mustang – on Sept. 14 are encouraged to wear attire inspired by their favorite period in Mustang history, from the 1960s through today.

A panel of Hour Detroit magazine editors and experts in fashion, arts and entertainment will judge the attire and select 12 finalists (two from each decade), with the top three costumes earning the following prizes:

First place: A two-year lease of an all-new Mustang GT

Second place: An early drive of the all-new Mustang

Third place: A hot lap in a new Mustang with a Ford Performance driver

Mustang owners can register to participate in The Stampede, which kicks off with a parade of Mustangs driving from Ford World Headquarters to the debut event at Detroit’s Hart Plaza.

Ford will broadcast The Stampede live on its social channels, sharing the debut event’s excitement, highlighting owners roaring their engines, flexing their head-turning customizations and sharing their passion for the world’s all-time best-selling sports car. The main event begins at 8 p.m. EDT.

Best Stang Decade entrants will need to be photographed at one of the photo booths at The Stampede between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 14.

Winners will be announced no later than Sept. 15, 2022.

Open to legal U.S. residents who reside in the 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C., who are 18 years of age or older, and are invited attendees of The Stampede.

Ford to Announce the All-New Seventh Generation Mustang on Sept. 14

Ford invites Mustang owners and fans to participate in the countdown to The Stampede, the all-new Mustang global debut event on Sept. 14 as part of the Detroit Auto Show activities.

For the seventh year in a row, Ford Mustang® – which celebrates its 58th birthday this Sunday – is the world’s best-selling sports coupe, according to Ford analysis of registration data from S&P Global Mobility.

Mustang retains its sales crown for 2021 led by the pinnacle of 5.0-liter V8 performance, Mustang Mach 1, and the track-ready Mustang Shelby® GT500®, the most powerful street-legal Ford in history and the most advanced Mustang ever for street, track or drag strip use.

“When enthusiasts around the world get into a Mustang, they unlock that feeling of freedom and experience the open road,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, Ford Blue. “That feeling, along with iconic design, awesome powertrains and a passionate global community all contribute to making Mustang a sales leader for the seventh year in a row.”

According to Ford internal data, the United States remains home to the strongest demand for Mustang representing 76% of global sales. Other markets that saw growth in Mustang sales in 2021 include New Zealand, up 54.3%, Brazil, up 37.3%, and South Korea, up 16.6%. For those who wanted a Mustang of their own, customers retail orders nearly doubled in 2021 compared to the year prior.

Ford looks to continue this momentum with five new special editions in the lineup, including Mustang Ice White (also available on Mustang Mach-E), Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition, GT California Special, Coastal Limited and Stealth. From Mustang EcoBoost® to Shelby GT500, there is a special edition at every performance level for muscle car enthusiasts.

Mustang gains eight new color options for 2022 as well, including Ford Performance-exclusive Code Orange on Shelby GT500, while Brittany Blue Metallic returns specifically for Shelby GT500 Heritage and Coastal Limited models. Additional new colors are available across the lineup – including Atlas Blue Metallic, Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic and Mischievous Purple Metallic.

Mustang Mach-E, the newest member of the Mustang family, also had a successful 2021 as one of the hottest products at Ford. In addition to a strong first full-year of sales, the Mustang Mach-E earned a trophy-case worth of press awards, including the coveted North American Utility Vehicle of the Year honor, Car and Driver’s 2021 EV of the Year, 2021 Wards 10 Best award and a 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award. 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition

Since the first 1967 model, the Shelby GT500 has stood for the pinnacle of Mustang performance and has continued to build on the legacy of Shelby performance. With a reputation for transforming Ford Mustang into dominant road racing machines, Carroll Shelby, American racer and entrepreneur, took his legendary Mustang GT350 model further in 1967 to craft the first-generation Shelby GT500 with a modified 428-cubic-inch V8 inspired by his team’s 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans.

Carroll Shelby called the original Shelby GT500 “the first real car I’m really proud of.” The Shelby GT500 is just as iconic today – as the most powerful and most advanced Mustang ever – as it was during its first iteration 55 years ago.
